Cheeseburger Egg Rolls

All the flavors of a juicy cheeseburger rolled in to a crispy crunchy egg roll wrapper. These Cheeseburger Egg Rolls are similar to the ones sold at Disney Parks and the Cheesecake Factory. You can pan fry them or even make them in the air fryer. I also created a quick “big mac” sauce to dunk these in! You must try these – they are so good!

Copycat Cheesecake Factory Cheeseburger Egg Rolls

Have I talked about my love for the cheesecake factory in this space before? I know I have mentioned it dozen of times on social media, but seriously – truly- I love the cheesecake factory. I have loved it for a good 20 years. I can’t explain why other than it’s just the perfect place to go with a group of people and have a good time. There is always something on the menu for everyone, and everyone is happy when they leave.

One thing I love about the cheesecake factory is their appetizers, specifically their Cheeseburger Egg Rolls! I made some crab rangoon egg rolls last winter and they were so popular and easy to make that I knew I needed to try a new version. These cheeseburger egg rolls have seasoned ground beef mixed with finely diced grilled onions and a whole lot of cheese. Then it is rolled up into an egg roll wrapper and deep fried. They serve it with a delicious dipping sauce and they are just addicting!

My version is not deep fried like theirs, but I pan fried mine and they taste just as delicious. I actually pan fried some and then cooked others in the air fryer. Both versions came out great, but I do have to admit the pan fried version was tastier.

You can dip these cheeseburger egg rolls in any sauce you like, but I created my own big mac sauce by combining some thousand island dressing with some finely chopped pickles. These egg rolls would also taste incredible in some ranch dressing too!

Cheeseburger Egg Rolls in the Air Fryer

Anytime I make a new egg roll recipe for my blog, I pan fry half the batch and I air fry the other half just to see how it works out. A lot of people have air fryers these days and they like to use it to make treats like this to cut down on the amount of oil they consume. I tried these out in the air fryer and they came out great! Super crispy, super melty and delicious. Cheeseburger egg rolls in the air fryer are definitely lighter than their pan fried counterpart, so that is definitely a pro, but I do have to admit I think the pan fried version is tastier.

The crispiness factor is a 10/10 both ways! The only con I find with the air fryer cheeseburger egg rolls is that occasionally one of the egg rolls will open up slightly so you have some cheese oozing out, but that really isn’t an issue. Some people even prefer that so that they can pick off the cheese once it cools! I am so guilty of that.

How to Roll Egg Rolls

  • Set up your egg roll making station: Fill a small bowl with water. You will use a little of this water to seal every egg roll. Open your egg roll wrappers package and keep a slightly damp paper towel over the package so that they do not dry out as you are rolling.
  • Lay an egg roll wrapper on the table, with a point facing toward you. Add 1.5 tablespoons of filling in the lower middle area of the egg roll wrapper. Then, fold up the bottom half of the wrapper, fold over both sides, and then add water to the upper triangle of the wrapper. Fold it over so that it sticks. I have a video of how I did this on my Instagram @spinachandbacon
  • Set each egg roll aside until you are ready to fry.

  • 12 Egg Roll Wrappers
  • Oil for Pan Frying

  • Let the mixture cool slightly and then set up your egg roll wrapping station.

Pan Fry Method

  • Add enough oil to come up half of an inch in a large skillet. You want the oil to be high enough to cover half of each egg roll, and then you will flip it and fry the other side.
  • Bring the skillet to medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the egg rolls to the pan. Once each side has gotten nicely brown, flip it over. Once both sides are brown, place each egg roll on a paper towel lined plate to catch any excess oil.
  • Serve with Big Mac sauce

Air Fry method

  • Spray each egg roll with cooking spray and make sure they are evenly coated. Cook the egg rolls at 390F for 8-10 minutes, flipping them after 5 minutes.

Big Mac Sauce

  • Finely dice the pickles and mix with thousand island dressing

NOTES

Most egg roll wrappers come in a larger pack, so you can add things in your refridgerator that are leftovers to create new types of egg rolls once you run out of cheeseburger filling. Some other ideas are leftover taco meat, rotisserie chicken mixed with buffalo sauce and cream cheese, or breakfast ingredients.

Substitutions and Variations

You can use any type of ground meat that you prefer. The only thing I suggest is if you are using 80/10 ground beef, you should drain some of the oil from the meat before you add it to your egg rolls. If you leave too much oil in the meat, you risk burning yourself with hot oil when you bite into it.

Storing and Reheating Instructions:

You can store any leftovers you have in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. You can also freeze them in a freezer safe bag or container for up to 3 months.

Reheat from frozen at 350 for 8-10 minutes. Reheat from the refrigerator at 375F for 2-3 minutes.
