Air Fryer Italian Sausage and Peppers

Air Fryer Italian Sausage and Peppers

I am from New Jersey and Sausage and Peppers sandwiches are super popular in this area due to the large population of Italian Americans. Growing up, anytime I went over to a friends house for a party, there was always a huge catered sheet pan full of sausage and peppers.

Right next to it would be bakery fresh Italian rolls and everyone was free to make their own little sausage and pepper sandwiches. I didn’t love peppers or onions when I was younger, but for some reason this flavor combo was just so good that I actually enjoyed them.

I used to cook Italian sausage on my stove top, but with the splatter, I find it easier to just pop it in my air fryer. Plus, I can toss my peppers and onions in my air fryer first, and then add my sausage to it. Air fryer Italian sausage is absolutely delicious, I cannot believe I never made it before. I love how crispy everything comes out, while remaining juicy inside. Also, clean up is so easy with this recipe which is a huge plus.

Air Fryer Italian Sausage Time and Temp

If you are cooking Italian sausage in the air fryer, the sausage should cook for about 17-20 minutes at 375F. Results may vary depending on which air fryer you have. I am able to fit about 6 Italian Sausage links in my air fryer at the same time. I found that after 17 minutes they were full cooked, crunchy on the outside, and juicy on the inside.

As with all meat, I let these sausages rest for 5-10 minutes after I cook them. This allows for the juices to evenly distribute inside.

When I made this recipe I used both pork sausage and chicken sausage to see if the results were similar. And guess what? Both came out delicious. As I get older, I come across more and more people that do not eat pork, so chicken is a great option. I grew up eating pork and it is probably my favorite protein of all time, but I really have to admit that the Sweet Italian Chicken Sausage at Trader Joe’s is absolutely delicious.

Another option for air fryer Italian sausage is to combine it with some air fryer potatoes. If you love potatoes as much as I do, you must try this recipe for Air Fryer Home Fries. Sausage would be a great addition to this dish.

You can either cook your sausage whole, slice it up, and then add it to your potatoes. Or you can slice up some sausage and add to the air fryer the same time you add your peppers and onions. It will be a bit greasier this way, so if you are looking to avoid that, I would cook the sausage first. slice it up and then add it to your potatoes once they are done cooking.
