Buffalo Chicken Dip

If you love buffalo wings, this creamy and cheesy dip is for you. Buffalo Chicken Dip is an easy dip made with shredded chicken, buffalo wing sauce, cream cheese, sour cream, and melty cheese. You combine everything in a baking dish, cook until melty and bubbly, and then serve with tortilla chips, celery, bread, or crackers.

Homemade Buffalo Chicken Dip

Easy Buffalo Chicken Dip

Every party I’ve been to in the past 10 years has served Buffalo Chicken Dip. And in Philadelphia, especially, it is a party staple. I really do not know anyone who doesn’t love the flavors in this dip. You combine shredded chicken, buffalo wing sauce, cream cheese, sour cream, and melty cheese. Then you bake it in your oven until the top layer of cheese is bubbly and oh my goodness it is so good.

You can use leftover rotisserie chicken, canned chicken, or homemade shredded chicken for this recipe. I have even stuffed this dip into crispy wontons and made Buffalo Chicken Wontons. If you love Buffalo Chicken Dip, you need to try those too.

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip

I normally bake this recipe so that is done faster, but you can definitely throw everything into a slow cooker and cook it that way. Set it on low and in 4-6 hours, give it a good mix. If you are going to use the slow cooker, I would save some shredded cheese to throw on top during the last 30 minutes of cooking. This will give the dip a final layer of melty cheese.

What does Buffalo Chicken taste like?

Buffalo Chicken is tangy and a little spicy but it can easily be adapted to be either mild, medium, or hot. The most common version of it is for wings, but Buffalo Chicken Dip has been gaining in popularity in recent years. I have seen so many variations of it. Buffalo Chicken Salad, Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese, Buffalo Chicken Stuffed Potatoes, Buffalo Chicken Jalapeno Poppers. Even Buffalo Wing flavored pretzel bites.

What should I serve with my Buffalo Chicken Dip?

Tortilla Chips – This is my number 1 dipper of choice. I like the sturdier tortilla chips, the ones that are a bit thicker than normal so that I can scoop up a lot of dip and my chip does not break. You also can’t go wrong with the tortilla chips that are labeled as scoops because they were literally meant for the job. If you choose a thinner tortilla chip, that is ok too just know that it may break off a little if you are dipping straight into the dip. It may be wiser to scoop the dip onto your plate and then figure out the situation with your chips individually.

Crackers – Ritz crackers are a gem in this dip, however, they are a little rich. I prefer to choose a cracker that is a bit thinner and has seeds in it so that I feel like I am eating something nutritious as I dunk it in the most decadent dip ever. 🙂 I forgot the name of the crackers but there are those multigrain hexagon shaped crackers and they are really delicious with this dip.

Raw Vegetables – My favorites for this dip are thin stalks of celery or carrots. I usually cut them into thin, yet sturdy, sticks and then eat a lot of them. They fill you up fast without needing chips or crackers. Plus, they add some fiber to the equation. These are a great addition to the spread.

Bread – This is more of a vessel than it is a “dipper”. Just spoon up a little dip, and spread it on some crusty bread or crostinis and it is so good. Creamy warm dip and freshly baked bread is a great combination and you must try it.
